The Y is a charity, dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. With programs from A to Z - like athletics to advocacy, dance classes to disease prevention, volleyball to volunteerism - we don't just strengthen individuals, we strengthen communities.
How does our Y impact the members in our community?
Meet Lily Gao. Lily moved into our community from China in 1996 when her husband was transferred as an Asian Market Director for a local company. Living in communist China, she had never heard about a YMCA and did not know what the Y was all about. She only knew the YMCA song by the Village People! Her oldest child was not even a year old when she joined the Tuscarawas County YMCA in 1997. Lily says she found her Y family FIRST, before she even had a church family or a circle of friends.
Lily now has three children and has enjoyed watching them grow up in the Y, participating in the various activities including gymnastics classes, sports classes and progressing from baby swim lessons to joining the Y Silver Streaks swim team. She has volunteered as a swim meet timer and is now a swimming official. She and her husband take fitness classes and workout in our Wellness Center every week.
Lily wishes she had known about a Y when she grew up in China! She says she has met many wonderful people at the Y, and is now a member of our Board of Directors.
We are happy to have Lily as part of our Y family!
Every gift matters.
Everyone has a role to play.
Together, we can achieve so much more.
